Surgery of the nose may also correct impaired breathing caused by structural abnormalities in the nose.

While the shape of your nose is usually the result of heredity, the appearance may have been altered in an injury or during prior surgery.

Nose surgery can change:

  • Nose size, in relation to the other facial structures
  • Nose width, at the bridge
  • Nose profile, with visible humps or depressions on the bridge
  • Nasal tip, that is large or bulbous, drooping, or too upturned
  • Nostrils that are large, wide or upturned
  • Nasal asymmetry and deviation

Rhinoplasty FAQ's

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a “nose job” or “nose reshaping,” aims to improve facial harmony and nose proportions. Additionally, it can address structural defects that may hinder breathing.

What it can treat:

  • Nose size in relation to facial balance
  • Nose width at the bridge or in the size and position of the nostrils
  • Nose profile with visible humps or depressions on the bridge
  • Nasal tip that is enlarged or bulbous, drooping, upturned or hooked
  • Nostrils that are large, wide or upturned
  • Nasal asymmetry

Is it right for me?

A Rhinoplasty is an individualized procedure, and you should do it for yourself, not to fulfill someone else’s desires or to try to fit any sort of ideal image.

A Rhinoplasty may be a good option for:

  • Your facial growth is complete
  • You are physically healthy
  • You don’t smoke
  • You have a positive outlook and realistic goals in mind for the improvement of your appearance

Your consultation is your time to ask the doctor about the procedure you’re considering, how he thinks it will work for you and any concerns you may have.

Questions to Consider:

  • What is the simplest and safest surgery to help me achieve my goals?
  • Are other options available?
  • What results can I expect, and how long do the typical results last?
  • Where will scars be located, and how noticeable will they be?
  • Will scars fade over time, and how long will this take?

Your surgeon will:

  • Assess your overall health and any pre-existing conditions or risk factors.
  • Capture photographs for reference.
  • Engage in discussions about available options and potential outcomes of the earlobe repair procedure, including risks and complications.

After your consultation with the physician, you will meet with the practice manager to discuss procedure costs.

Comprehensive comprehension of every facet of your arm lift procedure is crucial. It’s normal to experience a range of emotions, from excitement about the anticipated transformation to a bit of preoperative stress. Don’t hesitate to openly discuss these feelings with your plastic surgeon.

There are several things to do prior to your procedure that will make your recovery as smooth as possible and ease your pre-procedure anxiety.

Your Pre-Op Checklist:

  • Make sure you have arranged for someone to drive you to and from the surgery.
  • Consult with your surgeon and adhere to their instructions.
  • Take prescribed medications or modify current medication as directed.
  • Complete necessary lab tests within 30 days of your procedure.
  • Cease smoking, alcohol consumption, and drug use.
  • Refrain from taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, or herbal supplements to mitigate potential bleeding.

 Day of Surgery:

  • Be on time for your scheduled surgery appointment.
  • Bring a companion aged 18 or older.
  • Refrain from eating or drinking after midnight prior to your surgery.
  • Opt for loose, comfortable clothing that is easy to put on and remove on the day of your surgery.

Above all, adhering to your surgeon’s pre-surgery recommendations is key to a successful and swift recovery.

Anesthesia:

Medications are administered for your comfort during the surgical procedure. The choices include intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Your doctor will recommend the best choice for you.

The Incision:

Rhinoplasty can be conducted through either a closed procedure, concealing incisions inside the nose, or an open procedure, involving an incision across the columella, the slim strip of tissue between the nostrils. These incisions provide access to delicately lift the skin covering the nasal bones and cartilages, facilitating the reshaping of the nose structure.

Reshaping the Nose Structure:

To address an overly large nose, bone or cartilage may be diminished through surgical intervention. In certain cases, augmenting cartilage grafts may be necessary. Typically, cartilage sourced from the septum, the central partition of the nose, is commonly utilized for this purpose. On occasion, cartilage from the ear or, less frequently, a segment of rib cartilage may also be employed.

Correcting a Deviated Septum:

Straightening a deviated septum and reducing internal projections can enhance breathing function when addressing septal issues.

Closing the Incision:

After sculpting the underlying nose structure to the desired shape, the nasal skin and tissue are repositioned, and incisions are carefully closed. In some cases, additional incisions may be made within the natural creases of the nostrils to modify their size.

Recovery durations following a Rhinoplasty vary for each patient, ranging from days to months.

After your rhinoplasty, the application of lubricating ointment and cold compresses may be recommended. In certain cases, gauze may be gently placed over the treated area for added protection.
