VASER® Liposuction

About the Procedure

VASER® Liposuction is an alternate technology to traditional liposuction that can be performed either in-office with a local anesthetic, or at a surgery center under general anesthesia. VASER® Liposuction is an ultrasonic process to removed fatty deposits from beneath the skin to improve the contours of the body. The ultrasonic energy is used in a controlled fashion to assist the surgeon in the selective removal of fat. Ideally, patients who are treated by VASER® Liposuction are in good physical condition and are looking for sculpting, opposed to weight loss.

The VASER® is not a laser, in fact, VASER stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. The ultrasonic energy is transmitted to the fat cells by small probes (between two and three millimeters), breaking apart each cell with minimal damage to important surrounding tissues. The fat cells are “shaken” apart, emulsified, and removed via a small cannula. When comparing this technique to standard liposuction with or without ultrasound, there is increased skin contraction and tightening with VASER®. The VASER® method is also more specific for fat, so that the risk of injury to the blood vessels and nerves, as well as muscles and skin, are much lower than traditional liposuction.

What to Expect
